Malayalam Songs
Malayalam is the local language of the South Indian State ‘Kerala’. Like Kerala’s beautiful landscapes, awesome greenery and lovely backwaters , Malayalam songs are also considered to be very pleasant and soothing. Malayalam songs have a very high influence of Carnatic music, but they still have their own uniqueness and flavor. Some of the main common instruments used in the classical music are Villu, Chenda, Talam,Kuzhal,Para and Veena. Kerala’s classical music is ‘Sopana’. The classical song is usually emotional and is played in slow tempo.
Composers like Illayraja and A R Rehman have contributed significantly to the Malayalam music. They also brought a lot more genres other than the classical music. They included the hip hop,rock,folk music and pop in their songs as film composers. A R Rehman also started the concept of fusion of western and Indian elements. This gave birth to a completely new era and new music.
